COLOURED ALUMINIUM : Pattern & Print
Anodised aluminium is a fascinating and diverse material, which can be decorated to produce stunning effects for contemporary jewellery, craft and sculpture.

Working with pre-anodised aluminium you will focus on the decorative colouring of the material.  You will be introduced to a host of printmaking techniques through demonstrations and discussions; including block printing, collagraph and mono-print.  There will be a strong emphasis on the use of found, recycled and foraged natural materials to produce unexpected textures and patterns.

You will create a series of samples and notes as you try out each colouring technique, providing a useful reference collection, whilst being encouraged to experiment and explore the capabilities of the material.  The course will cover the considerations required when designing for anodised aluminium.

You can expect to come away from the course with a good set of samples and the confidence to continue exploring the subject alone.  You will be given notes and a useful list of suppliers during the course.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
Over the years it’s been a joy to share my passion for colourful aluminium through workshops and as a visiting tutor and lecturer. Whether teaching from my STUDIO in Wiltshire, or out and about at MORLEY COLLEGE in London, or the beautiful WEST DEAN COLLEGE in Sussex, I like to create a relaxed environment where the emphasis is on playfulness and discovery. Whilst I guide students with demonstrations and practical advice, each aspect of the course serves as a springboard for individuals to experiment and develop their own visual language. I support each student, to allow them to build on their skills and confidence whilst exploring this fascinating and limitless subject. In 2010 I wrote a book - 'Coloured Aluminium Jewellery: design & make'. This was a wonderful opportunity to bring together all of the research, experimentation and educational projects I had undertaken during the first decade of my jewellery practice.  There is always more to learn, there are more techniques to be discovered and inovative adaptations to be made within this relatively young field of work and its.
